“The present moment can be best described as the flow of life

— Frank Ostaseski —

Mindfulness is an invitation to welcome and trust what unfolds in the present moment with an open heart and mind. It is the awareness that emerges when we deliberately pay attention to what happens in the here and now, with an attitude of acceptance.

It is an ability that needs to be cultivated on a daily basis to lessen our automatic mental and behavioural reactions. Mindfulness can be practised formally in sitting meditation for example or informally when paying attention to the experiences that unfold in any life situation: eating, washing the dishes, driving, connecting to people we love, resolving a conflict, dealing with challenges, enduring an illness or being delighted while watching our children play.

Thousands of studies show that regular practice of mindfulness can help people respond more adequately to stress and day-to-day challenges instead of responding to them automatically. It helps individuals to increase their sense of wellness, regulate their emotions, have better relationships and cultivate resilience amongst other things.
